Frequently Asked Questions
1)What are the pre-season and certification requirements to be a
lifeguard?
You must
be 15 years of age by the time you take the certification class.
Before you can start working, you must complete a Lifeguard Training
Class. This class consists of about 30 hours. Swim Atlanta will
offer the classes beginning in March, 2007.

2) Where will I be working?
There
are many different styles of pool facilities and each one is
unique. As a member of the lifeguard team, you may be asked to
float from one pool to another and it's very important to understand
that what you do at one pool may not be deemed appropriate at
another pool. We never ask you to work at a pool that is more than
15 miles from your house. There are Homeowner Association
Communities, Private Swim Clubs, Single-Guard Pools, and Multi-Guard
Pools. Ask your Supervisor about the specifics of the pool where you
are assigned.
3) How do I get paid?
We issue
paychecks every two weeks. We can mail it, give it to your pool
manager, or you can come to our office to pick it up.
4) How much vacation time can I take? What if I am sick or need
time off?
We only
allow Full Time Lifeguards take seven consecutive days of vacation
time. It is the employee's responsibility to give at least a
two-week notice in writing to the Staffing Department for any
scheduled time-off. Employees need to realize that many people are
relying on them to work their scheduled shifts and to arrive at work
on time. Fellow lifeguards, property managers, patrons, Swim Atlanta
and the neighborhood children are relying on you to be responsible.
If you are ill or absolutely have an emergency and cannot make your
shift, please notify the office as soon as possible and begin trying
to find a substitute guard to take your place. It is extremely
difficult for your assigned shift to be filled; however, our
Staffing Department will work diligently to accommodate your
situation. Understand the difficult position that you put the
Staffing Department Representatives in as they will need to find
another lifeguard, notify the Pool Manager, and possibly rework the
schedules of local facilities to accommodate you.
5) How do I apply?
