SwimAtlanta Lifeguard Certification:
THESE CLASSES ARE ONLY FOR THE LIFEGUARDS THAT HAVE BEEN HIRED TO
WORK FOR SWIM ATLANTA THIS YEAR. YOU MUST SCHEDULE AN
INTERVIEW AND BE HIRED AS A LIFEGUARD FOR THIS SUMMER BEFORE
YOU CAN SIGN UP FOR A CLASS.
Classes are set up with both pool time and classroom time, totaling
approximately 35 hours. For your convenience, hours are split up over a
number of days. Some classes span over two weeks and some over 5 days.
You are required
to attend all the days listed in each class. If you are unable to attend any portion
of a class, please choose another class.
Individuals must pass a prerequisite physical ability test before
they can take the Lifeguard Course. The test is administered on
the first day of the class. If you cannot pass the test, you will
not be charged for the course.
You must be able to:
- Swim 500 yards (10 laps or 20 lengths of a Junior Olympic pool).
- Be able to swim Freestyle (Crawl), Breaststroke and Sidestroke.
- Tread water for 2 minutes with your hands above your head.
- Retrieve a ten pound brick in 8 feet of water.
Please bring the following with you to the class: swimsuit, towel,
change of clothes, funds for class ($150.00), lunch/lunch money
and a pen or pencil. There will be a one hour lunch beak each day
for all classes longer than 6 hours.

Classes fill up quickly at this time of year, so it is important
to sign up as soon as possible. Your name must be on the class roster!!!
